SQL Server 2008 R2中新增了 SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel 與 PowerPivot 
for SharePoint Server 2010。PowerPivot 為一新的 BI 技術， 透過上述兩項功 
能可讓使用者以熟悉的 Excel 及 SharePoint Server 工具從任何來源萃取資訊， 
同時 IT 人員也可偵測及管理使用者所建立的 BI 解決方案。 
 
微軟引用 IDC 的預測指出，資料庫市場將從 2008 年的 240 億美元成長到2013年 
的320億，成長率為33.4%；同時微軟 SQL Serve 的市佔率亦已超越IBM及甲骨文。 
 
除了傳統的標準版及企業版外，SQL Server 2008 R2新增了Microsoft SQL Server 
2008 R2 Datacenter及Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse 
。其中，資料中心版本為一高效能的資訊平台，結合 Windows Server 2008 R2 可 
允許客戶在具備多達 256  個邏輯處理器的系統上執行資料庫，而且可轉移到支援 
Hyper-V 與 Live Migration 的虛擬資料中心。微軟指出，這將協助企業可轉向虛 
擬化且根據需求打造的私有雲端。 
 
其他新增的元件還有 SQL Server 2008 R2 Master Data Services 及 SQL Server 
2008 R2 StreamInsight， 前者協助客戶在異質系統中保持資料的一致性，後者則 
可支援大量的事件串流處理。 
 
微軟表示，SQL Server 2008 R2 亦將 SQL Server 2008的能力透過Microsoft SQL 
Azure 延伸到雲端，它提供了一致的程序設計模式、通用的功能與工具，並透過推 
廣雲端資料服務建立新商機。例如最近發表的 Dallas 程式，即屬於採用 Windows 
Azure 打造的產品，允許開發人員及使用者存取各種資料及內容
